Request Kit
SC Public Records Request Kit
Once you know who to ask, this is how you ask and what to do with the answer.
The county in one document: which office holds which record, when each body meets, and where a request actually has to go to get answered.
Most people lose a week before they file anything, because the hard part isn't writing the request — it's finding out who to send it to. A request sent to the wrong body isn't forwarded. It comes back, eventually, with a perfectly truthful sentence: no responsive records. And in most cases the response clock never started, because the right body never had it.
This is the answer to "who do I even ask?" for Clarendon County — with the names, the direct emails and the direct phone numbers, not a switchboard.
These are the figures behind the document. Most people asking for records here have never seen them laid out.
That last row is the one worth reading twice. South Carolina requires a public body to post its records fee schedule online. When a body quotes you a number and has published nothing, that is worth putting in writing — and the directory tells you which ones have published and which haven't.
Every name, title, address, phone number and email came from the body's own published material or the Municipal Association of South Carolina, and was checked on the verification date printed on the cover. The sources page lists all thirteen, with URLs.
Nothing here is estimated or inferred. Where a body publishes nothing, the document says so rather than filling the gap — an absence is recorded as an absence, not guessed at.
Officials change, offices reorganize, posting locations move. The document carries a version number and a verified date, and it is re-checked on a schedule rather than written once and abandoned. Buyers get revisions free. Find an entry that's wrong and it gets corrected and reissued.
A contact and custodian reference, not legal advice. It does not tell you whether a particular record must be released, and buying it does not create an attorney–client relationship. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting on behalf of Clarendon County, any municipality, the school district, the DSN board or any other body named in it.

For when the request is refused and the paper trail has to hold up.
